The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) held its second SEE Summit on October 3, featuring environmental ambassadors within the optics industry.
Speakers included Thiago Gentile of Planet Zero on achieving carbon neutrality, Specsavers’ director of sustainability Munish Datta upon how to implement a sustainability strategy worldwide, as well as a video from Millmead Optical Group on its collaboration with sustainability designer Yair Neuman and his lens waste artwork.
Topics such as recycling packaging and eco-friendly lens were also discussed by a panel led by ABDO’s sustainability campaign lead Antonia Chitty, with the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare researcher Rosie Hilson, sustainability lead for the Optical Suppliers Association, Jayne Abel, plus green practice owner, Sukie Woodhouse.
ABDO chief executive and SEE Summit seat, Daryl Newsome, said that the event aimed to have ‘even more eye care practitioners and organisations taking part to demonstrate and illustrate new plus good practical tips with regard to reducing your practices’, workshops’ or consulting rooms’ carbon footprint, with an eye to the future and new products and behaviours. ‘
